If they stutter or use a word starting with a wrong letter, they must go in the center and creatively act out a death.

Two girls having lunch:
Michelle – smartest girl in school is flattered to have lunch with the most popular girl but is really feeling sick right now and trying to hide it.

Jelani and Dalicia – made up their own
Jelanie – wants to have a relationship with Dalica
Dalicia – is not interested in having a relationship with Jelani

Wednesday, April 27th:

Pair up with a partner.

Create a scenario with a situation, characters, and a relationship.

Each person creates a subtext. Perform it before the class.

We will try to figure out the subtext.

The actors have to establish the environment, the situation, and the relationship with the other character. Do not reveal to the other character what your subtext is.

Actors who performed today:
Shakhina/Audrey: Two sisters who are trying to decide to go to party. Audrey is cheating with Shakhina’s boyfriend. Shakhina learned Audrey is going to die soon.

Thailor/Leslie: Boyfriend and Girlfriend are at a pizza restaurant. Disagreement ensues as to how long they have been dating.  He knows she is obsessed with him and is “pity dating” her.
He walks out, leaving her stuck with the bill.
Michelle/Chelsea: Friends at school. Gossiping about various couples. Michelle comes out to Chelsea. Chelsea talks about Zack. After Chelsea leaves, Michelle confesses she is in love with her.

Thursday, April 28th:

Dalicia: crashed car and wrecked it, trying to hide it from Dad

Jelani: is dating his cousin’s best friend
Rita: thinks he is dating her enemy

Natalie: Mom is marrying crazy Bob; Natalie hates Bob’s daughter, Tracee. Tells her little sister to hide the engagement ring so they won’t marry
Kimberly: hides the ring, and forgets where she hid it; knows Mom is pregnant

Nellie: mother, killed dad
James: knows father is gone, demands to know where he is

Friday, April 29th:
Subtext Exercises:
Lynn: Asks Oscar to party
Oscar: Agrees but tries to get to concentrate on grades
Oscar's subtext - Lynn's parents asked him to help her with school work
Lynn -

Stephanie: Uncle and Dad have both died at the same time. Seems strangely unupset.
Reyna:
Subtext: Reyna killed Uncle and Stephanie killed Dad because they were trying to disciplin the girls to make them act more mature.

Ki: denied talking about Barajas' secret to Ruby
Barajas: Confronted Ki in restroom about Ki talking about her, sharing a secret she told Ki
Subtext: Barajas was pregnant, told Ki her secret and Ki blabbed to Ruby
Reworked the opening of the scene - sloppy, did not make sense, half-hearted

Arturo: still sad about Dad's death, thinks a pro boxer killed him. Upsets Tyron for not passing ball to him in game.
Tyron: Upset with Arturo for not passing ball to him.
Arturo's subtext: guys on the team told him not to pass the ball to Tyron or they would kick Arturo off the team.
Tyron: His father was killed by Arturo's father, so he kills Arturo's father and get Arturo's mother pregnant (?)

Katherine: wants some "sibling bonding with Johan"; wonders where Mom and Dad are.
Johan: watching television
Katherine's subtext: Killed Mom but doesn't know Johan killed Dad.
Johan's subtext: Killed Dad but doesn't know Katherine killed Mom.
