Monday, November 17th:

3 and 6 will perform their scenes for their guest artist: Adinette, Tessa and
John
While groups 1, 3, and 6 are rehearsing for ten minutes, the
rest of the class will be divided into new groups to work on sketches:
1. Bus

Bus
Trip: The kids are each playing a different character waiting to get on a
bus to New York. One kid can be a no-nonsense ticket taker; another can be an
aspiring Broadway actress/actor (always a favorite!); a third can be a runaway
or a bank robber running from the law or two kids running away together; and
the final one can be an undercover cop posing as a homeless guy to arrest the
bank robber or to bring the runaway(s) home.
Elevator: There are a few people – all VERY STRONG
PERSONALITY TYPES or with very specific and/or unusual issues - already in the
elevator; other people, with equally strong personalities or issues get on
until the elevator is full. Suddenly, the elevator stops and everyone is
trapped!
Taxi: Another group or two can be assigned to do "Taxi": Four
chairs are set up like a cab with three people in the car - the driver and two
passengers. A fourth person hails the taxi and gets in. The
fourth person must make a very strong character choice - she or he can be
a rapper, a hick from a small town or a farm, a southern red neck, a Valley
chick, a hipster, a criminal running from the law - anything but it
must be very strong with an accent or a particular way of talking, or a
specific or unusual occupation, or a strange idiosyncrasy such as a twitch. The
other people in the taxi take on the character type or idiosyncrasy of the
fourth person. When the driver pulls over to pick up a new passenger, the
driver, fed up with the craziness,
gets out, everyone slides over, the person sitting next to the driver
becomes the new driver and the game starts all over again. I was thinking of
assigning about eight people for this to keep the game going for a while.
Restaurant: A busy restaurant with eccentric staff
and customers.
Doug: Owner, waiter and cook. Only guy on the job today.
Anne: Stole sister’s boyfriend but sister doesn’t know it
Jasmin: sister whose boyfriend was stolen; it’s her birthday
and she’s getting drunk
Noelia: pregnant mother of the two sisters, never liked the
boyfriend
Tavione: boyfriend; asks Alejandra to same restaurant he was
supposed to take Jazmine to, but he forgot.
Alejandra: the date of the two-timing boyfriend.
Started the
scene but didn’t finish.
For tomorrow: give scenes more time to work on them and then
present on Tuesday.
