Monday, October 19th:
Commercials:
We will divide up into groups of five to create a commercial
for a new product. The commercial should be a minute long – this is an
expensive commercial! – and should include the following:
Everyone must participate!
The commercial must have a fictional product.
The commercial should have a jingle (a catchy song!)
A slogan
A dance that everyone has to participate in
A pet of some sort
When you are divided into your groups, the first thing you
are to do is write down the names of every one in your group. Then write down
the name of your product and the idea for the commercial.
Had to redo the groups because students grouped up with
their friends and not with the assigned students in their groups.
Second attempt, half of the students were not where they
were assigned – most of them went to the lobby.

Questions for you to think about when you are creating your
character:
1. Where
is the character as s/he is speaking? Be specific! Is s/he in a classroom at
school? In her/his bedroom at home?
2. Who
is the character? What gender? What age? What grade in school if s/he is a
student in school? What is the character’s name?
3. What
is the primary conflict the character is having?
4. Who
is the character talking to?
5. How
does s/he feel about the character s/he is talking to? Does s/he like or trust
the character s/he is talking to?
6. Does
the character mention other people in the monologue? How does the character
feel about the people s/he mentions?
7. What
does s/he say about the people?
8. Is
there a situation involving other people?
What is the situation?
9. Make
up a story about the other people.
